What is a MUST for a wedding?

Ok, update on my 6 year engagement to the man of my dreams.  You may have read our love story I posted in the example for how to enter your Love Story 2 Win Wedding Photography competition I am running.   Since then, although it never really dawned on me, I thought..hmmm, maybe we should actually get married.   Granted I read ALOT of wedding info to keep up to date with the latest for my clients, but I can't say its ever really made me want a wedding.  I'm a low-key kind of gal so I would only want a low-key kind of wedding...if we ever did get around to it.  Like alot of my clients, we have a mortgage, credit cards, family overseas and interstate, and a precious child so throwing a party isn't going to be high on our agenda.

So...I was thinking numbers the other night (don't ask me why) and I say to my guy, "Honey, don't freak out but next year it will be 7 years (my lucky number) we will be together, and around Easter (when we got together) there is a 13th (his lucky number) on a weekend, what do you say we try get married once and for all?"  (Romantic, huh?)  Then a pause of silence and of course I know what he is thinking (money).  I say "We'll try and do it the way we want (immediate family only, ceremony down the road at the lake, fabulous photographer, vintage style decorations and clothing, luxurious dining table outdoors under a marquee, with a cool jazzy-type band, fabulous food like lobster and such and an amazing weekend up in the Hunter Valley as our honeymoon) but if we can't, we do it anyway".  He says with conviction in his voice, "Yep, lets do it.'

Of course I find myself 2 hours later like a mini-bridezilla already doing the sums.  Hmmm.  Let's just say it's going to be very very low key.  I started making a list then (I'm big on lists) of what, to me, is an absolute must.  Celebrant, Rings, Dress, Alcohol ...then it hit me.  How do I find a photographer that I am going to be happy with (read perfectionist) for a few measly bucks?  Do I forgo a photographer all together?  Nope.  Do I try shoot my own wedding?  Crazy.  I'm stuck.  I even considered whether we could just do a commitment ceremony instead to save money to have a decent photographer, but then I think what's the point, we are already committed big time.

Anway, please let me know your thoughts on what is a must to you, while I try figure it out and actually commit to the date, and tell the family (yes I'm telling you before them as they would want to help out and I'm not into them paying for it, or having them commit to a date I haven't yet committed to).

Laura and Rik
After 3 years of a mutual friend trying to introduce us saying "you'd be great for each other" and us trying to avoid being blindly set up, the stars aligned and we met at a party.
He says he knew I was the woman he had tattooed on his chest many years before he met me, so he was perspiring so much he can't believe I didn't notice.
I realised by how attracted I was to him, that I preferred to be by myself than settle for a 'safe' relationship ever again.
A month or two went by till we met again. By this stage I was single and he was meant to move to another state in 3 days.
We were on holiday by the seaside and we talked for about 48 hours straight before we finally kissed under a big full moon.
That kiss took my breath away and he had to hold me while my knees buckled under me.
When we touched fingers to hold hands, there were literally sparks.
The rest just fell into place.

COMPETITION MONTH 1 ENTRANTS

Danielle and Chris

I was well on my way home from work, having put my ferry ticket through the turnstile and all, when a friend called and suggested I come along to an event. I was feeling grumpy and almost didn’t – but at the last minute, I had one of those fateful moments and jumped back off the ferry and went along. I am quite a crazy dancer, and so later on the dance floor in mid shimmy and flailing limbs, I bumped into a stranger standing behind me. We both turned around and it was like greeting an old friend. Chris was from out of town and was just there for the night, so had I not jumped off the ferry that day, we may never have met. Three years later, and after a surf, massage and tapas on Valentine’s Day, I came home to a house full of candles and specially made egg-free cupcakes (I’m vegetarian), each with a letter in the icing which read together, spelt out ‘ W-I-L-L Y-O-U M-A-R-R-Y M-E-?’ and Chris was down on his knee. Life is not a fairytale, but it can be magical nonetheless, and needless to say, I said yes.

Wedding Locations in Sydney, the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Hunter Valley and Maitland

Choosing where to get married is often a very personal choice.  For some couples, it may be obvious where to get married right from when 'Yes' is said to a diamond... but for others, choosing a place can be more difficult as there are quite a few things to consider.  Let's go through them some questions that may help you decide.

Sentiment
Is there somewhere special where you were proposed to?
Where have you had some fun memories together?
What do you both most enjoy doing? eg. fine dining, dancing or the beach
Where did you first kiss?
Where was your first holiday together?
Is there a place you feel closer to someone dear who has passed away?

Budget
Will you have none, 50 or 200 guests at your wedding?
Is it important to you to have an intimate occassion a or fabulously huge party?
Is your wedding to be casual or formal?
Are you willing to pay for the ceremony location to have it somewhere special?
Do you want a wedding theme that would suit a particular location?

Travel
Will you have a driver to take you from one location to another on your wedding day?
Are cars a big part of your wedding?
Where will you be spending your first wedded night together?
Where are you going on your honeymoon?
Where will most of your guests be travelling from?
Is there sufficient accomodation at your reception venue?
Will there be travel organised to hotels from the reception for your guests?
How many guests will you have needing to stay overnight?
What accomodation or travel expenses can your guests afford or are you paying?

Since moving up to Lake Macquarie from Sydney, I've gotten to know so much more of this beautiful region north of Sydney that covers the Central Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, the Hunter Valley and Maitland.  Often clients don't have their wedding near to their homes for the reasons we have already outlined above and so in the past 2 years I have visited them in their homes at Allawah, North Ryde, Engadine, Narraween, Bossley Park, Warrawee, Beaumont Hills, Greenvalley, Liverpool, Sylvania, Marsfield, Chipping Norton, Wattlegrove, Glenfield, Lurnea, Bow Bowing, Prestons, Edensor Park, Prairiewood, San Remo, Watanobbi, Blue Haven, Killarney Vale, Mardi, Gosford, Ourimbah, Gorokan, Kanwal, Bateau Bay, Shelly Beach, Tarro, Umina Beach, Kariong, Kangy Angy, Buttaba, Carey Bay, Acardia Vale, Morisset, Blackalls Park, Windemere Park, Cardiff, Valentine, Whitebridge, Mirrabooka, Wyee Point, Bonnells Bay, Eleebana, Swansea, Coorangbong, Dora Creek, Mt Hutton, Boolaroo, Mayfield, Corlette, Adamstown Heights, Tighes Hill, Kotara, Glendale, Edgeworth, Gillieston Heights, North Lambton, Aberdare, Muswellbrook, Milbrodale, Ellalong, Raymond Terrace, Branxton and Maitland.

After listing these suburbs and remembering my solo trip when I travelled to many little towns on all the East Coast of Australia, I feel like singing "I've been everywhere man, I've been everywhere...".

"How does all this relate to me?" you ask yourself.  To help you along in making your choice, I've compiled a list of some spots where I have recently had the honour of photographing weddings which you can use as a starting point as possible locations for your own ceremony, photos or reception.
